How I Became A Golf Coach

I began my journey in golf began at the age of 27. Hoards of my office workers rushed twice a week to some mysterious gathering, away from our office space in Atlanta to not return until the next morning. To my amazement, I discovered, that they were making a sojourn to the many golf Meccas in Atlanta. On one faithful Wednesday afternoon ,I gathered my belongings and joined the guys on a golf trip to Fort McPherson golf course. Fort Mac, as was often called, was the departure point to my golf journey. I experienced the extreme challenge of the golf game and I wanted to conquer it. I was hooked and drawn into the boat with all who love the game. My first opportunity to view true golf expertise occurred at the Bobby Jones golf course where the great and legendary Carl Seldon conducted a golf clinic on the wedge game. I was fascinated his control of the golf ball and wondered how he could make the ball spin and stop like a solider snapping to attention. His mastery of the wedge caused his shots to dance on the green as if the ball was on a string. Carl Seldon made history within the PGA becoming the first black PGA professional and he later gave me my first opportunity to work as an assistant golf professional at the Bobby Jones golf course in Atlanta, GA. Through the grace of God, I had amazing opportunities to watch players like Sam Snead, Dan Sykes, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Calvin Peete, Seve Ballesteros, Ben Crenshaw, and Davis Love practice their craft both the driving range and golf course. Some of them even gave me opportunities to caddie for them and watch them take instruction from their teaching professionals. Through those great learning experiences, and years on the tours, I have fashioned a very adaptive approach to my teaching. My personalized teaching approach is based upon the laws of impact: Square contact, swing path, centered strikes, angle of attack and speed.
